CSDS* is an AMMONIA FREE/ WATER-BASED silver fluoride /stannous fluoride combination for tough and challenging situations.
*Caries Status Disclosing Solution.

CSDS, as the name implies is designed to provide a quick and reliable guide visual guide to the status of active carious lesions in the primary and secondary molars. It simplifies diagnosis and reduces the need for other diagnostic aids such as probing the surface of the lesion and taking radiographs.

In the technique silver fluoride is applied to the active lesion followed with an application of stannous fluoride. This turns the lesion black; this is deliberate. If the black surface remains it is a sign that the lesion is not progressing. If this colour is lost and the lesion turns brown/yellow it is indicative of underlying caries progression .
The silver fluoride stannous/combination are now finding a valuable place in aged care.

Carious lesion before application of CSDS.
Carious lesion after CSDS application. Remaining black colour indicates non-progression
